You may not realize it, but many children are exposed to potentially damaging noise levels every day. Exposure to noisy school cafeterias, loud music, movies, video games, sporting events, and other noisy activities can lead to noise-induced hearing loss. Noise-induced hearing loss:

  • Can build over time.
  • Is permanent.
  • Is preventable.

Although noise-induced hearing loss can occur at any age, the Noisy Planet campaign focuses on preteens. Children ages 8-12 are at an important stage in their lives. They are starting to make some of their own choices—some of which may expose them to dangerous noise levels. At the same time, they are still listening to the adults in their lives—so they’re ready to hear and act upon important personal health messages. That’s why this is a great time to help children develop healthy hearing habits.
